At Alpha, every employee is empowered to do the right thing when it comes to safety. Our safety programs are all based on the concept of changing behaviors, continuous improvement, and most importantly, are conceived by the individuals closest to the mining operations - because they know their jobs better than anyone else.
TRIR and NFDL rates are two common measures used by coal operators to track safety performance. While the trend in safety is headed the right direction (see charts below), continued emphasis is being put on Alpha’s Running Right safety process under the belief that any workplace accident or injury is preventable.
Employees at nearly 30 locations within the Alpha mining network completed 2010 without a single lost-time-accident all year. Alpha’s operations and the people running them have won multiple awards for safety achievements. Click here to see awards won over the 2008-2010 period.
