James F. Roberts is a member of the safety, health and environmental committee. He was Foundation’s chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer prior to the merger with Alpha. He was appointed to Foundation’s board of directors and elected chief executive officer in August 2004. Mr. Roberts served as Foundation’s president from August 2004 to January 2008. Prior to that position, he was president and chief executive officer of RAG American Coal Holding, Inc. from January 1999 to August 2004. Mr. Roberts was president of CoalARBED International Trading from 1981 to 1999, chief financial officer of Leckie Smokeless Coal Company from 1977 to 1981 and vice president of Finance at Solar Fuel Company from 1974 to 1977. Mr. Roberts is a director of the National Mining Association and former chairman, a director of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, a member of the executive committee of the National Coal Council and the vice-chair of the Coal Utilization Research Council.
